Miss Danvers sets a Math problem

The kids of Midvale Elementary School were used to Miss Danvers' eccentric ways. Although she was universally liked by all of her young pupils, many of them expressed bemusement at her tendency to stare at a wall (as if she could see right through it), typically followed by a cry of "Great Rao!" as she vanished into the supply closet and locked the door.

Individual incidentals also stood out -- like the time Miss Danvers dived under the desk in horror as one young girl produced a bright green globe from her backpack, only to look highly relieved when she learned that it was merely an apple for teacher. And who could forget when Miss Danvers took part in the school sports day Softball competition? NASA astronauts finally recovered the ball, but many students wondered whether it really was a case of "beginners luck"..!

Very strange!

However, parents and fellow teachers alike forgave Miss Danvers her quirks, and occasional unexplained absences, due to her hard working nature and extensive general knowledge.  Who else could mark twenty spelling tests in under ten seconds, or give detailed accounts of Arctic wildlife (almost as if she'd been there many times)..?  Admittedly some students felt her class on trans-dimensional warp-drive in space pods had little practical real-life value, but they enjoyed it nevertheless.
